I chose to write about pit bulls because I think they are a very fascinating breed and I myself own a Brindle Pit bull. Pit bulls are a strongly misunderstood breed; people think they are a mean dog just because they are a known breed for dog fighting that you may see on TV/ animal planet or on the internet. Well it’s not true; pit bulls are not as mean as people make them to be they are actually a very loving and characteristic breed just like any other breed. You can take any breed of dog and train it to fight and kill, but the reason they choose pit bulls over any other breed is because they do have a high pain tolerance and have aggression when taught to let it out. No matter what though it’s not the breeds fault it’s the owners, the owner is responsible to love and train the dog not neglect it or abuse it. When any breed of dog is abused or neglected it changes their view on humans. They may no longer trust anyone, might become severely shy or severely aggressive toward people and or other animals. For example when my pit bull Moses was one so two years ago; one of my little cousins were jumping on him and was yanking on his tail and since then he has been very cautious around smaller children. Another example was later that year Moses went down to our neighbors house to play with his dogs and my neighbor was really scared Moses because he is pit bull so he yelled at Moses and tried to scare him away and then shot Moses from behind. Luckily it was a through and through and it just missed his heart. When I went and talked to the man he tried to say that Moses had attacked him and bit him but honestly there wasn't even a scratch on the man. I was really pissed off that he lied but I let it go because Moses was alright and that's what matters. Moses is now two years old and about three and a half months ago my step dad ran him over with the car so now he is three legged but it doesn't bother him none, he is still a huge sweetheart.

Breeding Pit Bulls.

If you are planning on breeding your Pit Bull you need to put some thought in it and not just pick any random dog to breed with and make sure your dog should even breed. What I mean is dogs are just like humans their offspring share the same traits as their parents. So if you have a pit bull that has some bad habits you’re better off not breeding your dog, or if your dog is amazing and has no bad habits but the dog you want to breed yours with does I suggest you find a different dog to breed yours with. For example I got my pit bull Moses from the reservation in Cloquet, MN and I knew nothing about his parents, I just found him wondering the streets unlike all the other puppies and I asked the man if I could have him and he said yes. What I did not know was his dad is a HUGE red nose pit bull that hates kids and is really aggressive toward strangers and other dogs but on the other hand his mother was a very sweet American pit bull. Back to the whole offspring traits; Moses took after his dad in not liking children. He isn't horrible around them but he is very cautious around little kids he doesn't know. I really wanted to breed Moses with this beautiful female blue nose but have thought about it a bit and unless I can change Moses’s attitude toward children I think I will put off the breeding idea for a while. This breed is a very wonderful breed though and if you do have two wonderful dogs to breed and know how to choose homes carefully for them I say go for it. Why not have more Pit Bulls in the world; because once you own one for yourself you will never want any other breed. ((:

Pit Bulls becoming popular??

 

Pit bulls have always had a bad name; no one has ever given them a chance until a couple shows on Animal Planet such as the Dog Whisperer, Pit Boss, and Pit Bulls & Parolees. Those three shows show that pit bulls are a loving breed and aren’t as mean and vicious as people try to make them sound

I think my favorite show out of the three of them is Pit Boss. They have a huge meaning toward Pit Bulls. Here is Shorty's meaning of his show:

I really love how Shorty has so much compassion towards Pit bulls because he himself is misunderstood just like pit bulls it’s really unique and a wonderful show. It makes me glad that shows like this are becoming so popular because it’s giving pit bulls a chance and to show they are not vicious man eating dogs, they are loving and amazing. The pit bull is no different than any other dog.

What to expect ( Pitbull Temperament ).

 

Every website has its own opinion or fact about pit bulls. One website was a guide to pit bull temperament it talked about how a pit bulls behavior should be and if not it should be put to sleep. I thought it was stupid because not any dog is going to follow every single qualification, every dog has its days and may act different doesn’t mean we should put our animal to sleep. Some of the key points off the website were: Pit bulls are always friendly, they love everyone and they are never shy or fearful. I do not think that is true. My pit bull is a huge baby he is scared of my little jack Russell terrier. Another key point was that the pit bull is NOT a guard dog, which I understand because some people abuse the meaning of a guard dog but honestly pit bulls are guard dogs at heart any dog is its instinct. Some more key points were to NEVER trust your dog around other animals OFF LEASH or home alone with another pet. Now that’s just over exaggerating about how aggressive the breed is. Pit bulls are really not that any more aggressive than any other breed of dog unless they are trained to be. Some of the information you may find on the websites about this breed may not describe your dog and that’s because every dog is different depending on how they were raised. Pit bulls need socialization right away when they are little and a lot of it, around humans and other dogs. Introducing your pit bull puppy to people and other dogs at a young age and continually can decrease aggression in later life. You must be sure that the puppy’s experiences are ALWAYS positive. Pit bulls become very dominant when they hit maturity and may become aggressive towards the same sex. A dog that was previously non aggressive may turn on randomly at or near sexual maturity. Pit bulls are considered fully matured temperamentally and physically around 3 years old. Other than all the aggression pit bulls are very intelligent and enjoy lots of exercise. They are very loving and will do anything to please their humans.
