Buy or Adopt??

Most People would rather buy than adopt because they want to have a puppy and not a dog. What they don’t know is that you can adopt a puppy from a shelter; they don’t only have adult dogs. Also when adopting you’re more likely to end up with a very loving dog or puppy and they will tell you if it is good around children and other animals other than buying they may not be sure. Plus it is saving a life when you adopt, if a dog or any animal is in the shelter for too long especially pit bulls they are more likely to be humanely euthanized which is not fair. If it was up to the dog it wouldn’t even be in the shelter but it is because of people who abandon their dogs or rather buy a new one that there is so many other dogs or puppies in the shelter which is causing an overload at the shelters and animals have to be let go and the ones to be let go are the oldest ones or the pit bulls just because of their breed. Also when you adopt the animal is spayed/neutered which is a good thing and also might be another reason why people rather buy than adopt because they are looking to breed which can become a disaster because more than likely a dog or two might end up in the shelter because of the over breeding with dogs and cats. Another thing is that if people keep breeding pit bulls and giving them out or selling them to just anyone they may land in the hands of the wrong person which can lead to more hate against their breed, all because someone would rather buy than adopt a dog/puppy that they would have just about all the info about.

Many of the puppies in pet shops come from puppy mills. These are places where sad, lonely dogs live in small cages under awful conditions and are forced to give birth to puppies over and over again. After about five or six years, the dogs in the puppy mills don’t have enough puppies so they’re killed. If people didn’t buy puppies from pet shops, then the puppy mills would go out of business and the dogs in shelters would find good homes instead of being killed.
When you are ready to adopt an animal, don’t overlook the ones who may not seem "cute" to other people. These need just as much love as any others and will give you much love and appreciation in return.
When your friends tell you they want to buy a fancy, pedigree dog or cat, tell them about all the homeless animals who are waiting to be adopted. The dogs and cats in shelters are just as nice as the dogs in pet shops. Shelters even have many of the same pedigree dogs and cats as pet stores. There are also many rescue groups for purebreds, so if people want a specific kind of dog or cat they can always adopt one from the rescue group. (Compassionate Action Institute)

When you adopt from a shelter or rescue group, you’ll give a dog a second chance at finding a home and you will not add to the nation’s pet overpopulation problem. The reality is that an estimated 3.7 million unwanted pets must be euthanized at animal shelters every year -- many because they could not find families to adopt them. (American Humane Association)
